The Inventor
Bluey's father was a millionaire, he had made his money from inventing things , originally he had grown up and lived in Adelaide, when he had made his first million he decided to get away from all the smoke and grime and move to the Outback. Where he bought a valley with a couple of hills, and built his paradise, he called it, " The Oasis".
I first visited him about 8 weeks after I first met Bluey.
My first view of "The Oasis" was a wonder, here we were deep in the outback, yet before my eyes was an amazing sight, there were Palm trees, a swimming pool, tennis court and so many animals just walking about. As we came closer I pointed to a group of Kangaroos that were sitting together, Bluey shouted a G'day to them, to my amazement they put both their paws up and waved. Then one of the Roo's shouted G'day Bluey. Well I just stood there in awe, Bluey just laughed, and said, "don't worry mate, there mechanical", it seems his father liked to build mechanical animals and have fun with anyone that happend by.
Now my first impression of Bluey's father was that I thought he was a sandwich short of a picnic, always busy always off to finish a project or something. What I didn't realise till later, that Bluey's dad was just like the rest of us, he loved to play jokes on people. Now fortunately the Oasis was right next to the main road, so at the crack of dawn, he would set off tools in hand and go tinker with his creations
I remember one day precisely, there was a golfing competition on in the next town about 12 kilometre's away, at least half the competitors would drive past the house - and they would also drive past the main field. Now for a couple of night's Bluey and his father had been working in this field setting up things.
Well around 6am I got up and went outside, I was amazed at the result of their work, there were about 12 Kangaroos, all holding golf clubs and moving swinging their arms in different directions, a couple were stationary but most were on runners that moved forward and backward.
I felt very sorry for the tourists that drove down that road that day, I am sure that when they came in view of this assortment and saw a group of Kangaroos playing golf,
I remember the best part though was the mechanical Kangaroo that waved at everyone
I always wondered if the likes of a Greg Norman drove past, what he would have thought, maybe he would have just laughed and said "Only in Australia".
